1. The ability to love another person
This item applies to our partners, and to the family, and to any other person whom we are ready to love – that is, to accept him as he is, and to open himself to meet him.
2. Ability to work, create, create
This means not only moving up the career ladder, but also creating something that is important for you and for those around you. It is important for a person to leave a mark on the lives of other people, and the ability to do so is one of the signs of psychological health.
3. The ability to play, joke, be frivolous
The ability to perceive humor, the ability to get out of the state of emotional and mental stress and develop through games (sports, social, logical) – all this brings tremendous benefits and gives rest to our nervous system.
4. Ability to choose safe relationships
Everything is quite simple here: the instinct of self-preservation is inherent in all living creatures, and toxic relationships are one of the forms of self-destruction, and therefore mentally healthy people try to avoid them.
5. Ability to autonomy and self-reliance
In other words – the ability of a person to make decisions for themselves and be responsible for their choices.
6. Ability to accept oneself and one’s personality in all its variety of manifestations.
We cannot be perfect or be the embodiment of evil: in every person there are good and bad qualities combined, and a healthy person adequately evaluates them and accepts them in himself.
7. The ability to recover from stress
Our psyche cannot be under stress for a long time, and the ability to adapt to change is one of the signs of its stability.
8. Realistic and sustained self-esteem
Too critical or, on the contrary, too highly appreciating ourselves, we are exposed to the constant risk of inconsistency with our expectations, which leads to frustration, stress and frustration.
9. The presence of a conscious system of values
This implies a situation where our values not only give us a sense of security and stability, but can also change with time and depending on the situation.
10. The ability to experience any emotion and to bear the associated stress
It means to be able to feel them, to be aware of and not to succumb to them, while simultaneously maintaining contact with both the rational and the emotional side.
11. Ability to look at oneself
Or reflex – to see the situation regardless of its attitude to it and choose ways of solving the problem that are most effective in this context.
12. The ability to clearly separate oneself and others.
Including in emotions and desires. So, the person who offended us probably didn’t have such a goal, and the insult is our emotion, and it exists only in the format of our personality, that is, it doesn’t refer to another person.
13. Flexibility and adequacy in the use of psychological protection
When we are under stress or anxiety, our brain tries to “escape” from it, unconsciously avoiding unpleasant situations or ignoring problems that need to be dealt with. All this helps us to be at rest. However, a healthy person sometimes goes against his subconscious desires and does what is needed, and not what is pleasant.
14. Balance in focus on oneself and on others.
It is about the ability to take into account their own interests, along with the interests and comfort of other people, relations with which are important for us.
15. Ability to feel alive
Or sense of vitality – one of the main signs of harmonious human existence.
16. Ability to accept impotence
That is the ability to be sad, to feel anger and grief and at the same time to understand and accept what we cannot change.
All the components of mental health described above may be present in humans to one degree or another, and they all affect our quality of life and its fulfillment. It is also a pretty good checklist, which clearly demonstrates that life should be changed, and that works without changes.
