The debut of the first generation of this classic full-size pickup took place as much as 37 years ago, and since then Ram has already experienced four generations, first releasing under the auspices of Dodge, and after 2011 – by the Fiat-Chrysler community.
Basically, the model was addressed to buyers of the North American market, but in recent years, the fourth generation, in some of its modifications, has slowly begun to master Europe, as well as Asia.
The new generation Ram 1500 was first introduced quite recently, at the Detroit North American International Auto Show, and announced as a 2019 model.
It seems that this will be a significant breakthrough from a technical and design point of view, compared with previous versions, and this is a rarity for this class of machines, since revolutionary metamorphoses are considered here almost as a move. Well, Chrysler has challenged the world with this model, see if the latter appreciates the flirting with itself and responds in kind.
The design, which is expected and quite logical for this class of technology, will remain a frame, and 98% of it consists of a high-strength steel alloy. Its total weight will be lower than the previous verification by 102 kg, which should have a good effect on the dynamics by reducing the drag coefficient by 9%, but at the same time, the carrying capacity of transport will grow by more than 200 kg (now it is 1.043 tons).
And if earlier it was possible to take a five-ton maximum in tow, now the Ram 1500 can easily pull all six tons of a trailer.
By design, the updated model has received the highest ratings of experts. And you can’t argue with them – it looks really impressive.
The exterior will be much more modern, compared to its predecessor, more expressive and stylistically seasoned.
The new design emphasizes the chrome-plated details of the front bumper trim with large slots in the lower false radiator grille and lower lights and the cellular panel of the ventilation system, which is a single piece with the massive headlights.
The edging of windows, rear-view mirrors and a decorative strip at the bottom of the door, which echoes the exterior of the rear bumper, looks harmoniously in the same spirit. The deep lines of the vyshtampovki hood will be balanced by soft outlines of doors and neat contours of the wheel arches.
The cabins are available in three versions – Single (single row), Quad (similar to the one and a half) and full five-seater Crew. Completions with the same time, based on the size and level of comfort, traditionally there will be about a dozen, starting with the most banal Tradesman.
Regardless of the car version, a new authentic active noise cancellation and vibration damping system is implemented everywhere. The salon with ventilated and adjustable seats will be, as before, very comfortable and significantly improved in terms of the quality of materials.
As for equipment – on board all the current, very solid and high-quality, which the Americans, as always, can not refuse, a set of equipment and assistants. From a huge twelve-inch screen of modern multimedia with a Harman premium audio system, to the latest generation of adaptive cruise control.
Separate attention should be paid to several high-tech developments introduced into the model.
For example, the system of automatic extension of the front spoiler under the bumper, if the speed of the car exceeded 48 km / h, as well as a fully mechanized adaptation drive of active louvers behind the grille, correctly controlling the intensity of air flow in different driving modes.
Not without the participation of Jeep Wrangler, for the sake of the current fashion and the eco-form that have tightened in recent years, the designers from Detroit had to enrich the line of power units with a moderate hybrid on the eTorgue system. His task was to save fuel by automating alternately deactivating cylinders, as well as transferring thrust to an electrical component with rapid acceleration from a standstill.
In addition, in the complete set of machines declared:
- a six-liter Pentastar of 3.6 liters and 309 hp, or eight-cylinder HEMI of 401 hp and 5.7 liters of aspirated gas (as a pair to the above-mentioned electric motor with a 48 V battery and a capacity of 0.43 kWh);
- eight-speed automatic transmission;
- wheelbase 3.67 / 3.9 m, depending on the configuration;
- Bilstein lift-suspension, 25.4 cm ground clearance, off-road tire kit and plastic protective body kit around the perimeter in the Rebel-complete set;
- additional assistants – monitoring of blind zones, Park Assist, Trailer Detection, etc .;
- optionally available panoramic sunroof.
They promise that an economical three-liter turbodiesel will appear in the list of offers later, and only two models have been proposed so far in the 1500th model – heavy off-road Rebel and chic Limited dandy.
The decision to force these two directions at once was not accidental: the statistics of recent years shows that in American cities the fashion for pick-ups is reviving again, so it was logical to release, first of all, the version addressed to this particular public.
But, the designers did not forget about the true purpose of the practical pickup, which is confirmed by the unanimous praises of critics after the sensational debut. On the domestic market for the manufacturer, the sales of new items will start from 27,000 for the most elementary modification.
Luxury Limited will cost $ 53,000. And he will traditionally have to compete in the segment with Chevrolet Silverado, Ford F-150 (and other F-series models), GMC Sierra, Nissan Titan, Toyota Tundra, and also Jeep Gladiator.
