Considering that the basic model itself on the traditional internal combustion engine made its debut only at the end of 2017, the development almost immediately after the electric version was evaluated by critics as an extremely bold step and deserving respect.
But, in fact, the success of the launch of the electric vehicle planned for 2019 (which, for acquaintance with the public, just brought Hyundai to the recently depressed Geneva auto show) will consist only a fraction of a percent of thoughtful marketing.
Its main pledge, the designers share, is in the implementation of the cherished dream of creating an environmentally friendly and fairly powerful car of today’s popular format that has been thoroughly implemented over the years.
Externally, the electric modification will have a different, compared to the basic version, the shape of the radiator grille and bumpers, as well as only 1.5 cm, but, nevertheless, a greater ground clearance. By the way, the fact that the false radiator was subjected to changes is quite logical – it is behind this, which has become a decorative, detail that the connector for recharging is hidden.
Nobody argues, the ground clearance of the model, as well as suspension settings, as well as other parameters are not created at all for the active conquest of off-road. But, on the highway and in the city, he behaves remarkably, and on this, in general, his bid was made by his designers.
The body of the model on the chassis of the i20 is more than half made of the original Korean alloy, which is based on extremely strong steel. Materials, layout and interior design are completely analogous to the non-electrified Kona. But the appearance of the tunnel has completely changed – it has become a two-story one and now almost makes up one whole with the center console. The more powerful version can withstand as much as 470-500 km on one charge and accelerate to 100 km / h in 7.6 s, thanks to a 64 kWh battery. Engine power under which is already 150 kW.
The European markets will get acquainted with the new electrocrospect, perhaps, already this summer, and from 2019, its production will start at India’s factories for export to other countries of the world.
The energetic modern youth of the domestic, American and European markets were chosen as the target audience, to which both the bright memorable appearance and the excellent dynamic characteristics of the compact more than correspond.
It’s not for nothing that he was given the following name: Kona is a world-famous version of Hawaiian exclusive coffee, and a car with such a name should really shake the auto world, making it a powerful tonic factor.
